It is just a rumour at present, but reportedly Nikon will be not be updating some of its DSLR models. Instead, there will be mirrorless equivalents which will include replacements for its low end budget models. Those cameras are not the most profitable but make up for that in sales volumes. Mirrorless cameras have far many fewer parts than DSLRs and are cheaper to produce, so in many ways it makes sense. The risk for Nikon is that customers will go elsewhere, although realistically it has little choice over its future direction. It is the way the market is moving. Mind you, some of us been there for a while. I have not bought any DSLR gear in years.
