Unlike a lot of such US based giveaways, this draw does not appear to be limited to those living in the States. That does not mean that anyone in this country who is fortunate enough to win it will necessarily receive it free of charge. Camera lenses attract 6.7% import duty and 20% VAT is also payable on the total amount, including duty and carriage. That's right, tax is due on tax. The tariffs are set by the EU and, in theory, import duty is used to protect indigenous producers. Other than Leica, I am not sure how much lens manufacturing takes place on the continent. Nor does it explain why cameras are exempt from import duty. It would be worthwhile seeing if the sender would be prepared to send the lens as a gift, which is less likely to attract the attention of HMRC when it enters the country.
