Lake District

Postby Franke07 » Tue 03 Nov 2020, 14:39

I wandered lonely as a cloud…….
The poet was describing a Spring time sky in the Lake District! Because as I have found, in Autumn there are no lonely clouds, just angry ones that are mad that Summer is over. They band together and roam the skies looking for chances to shroud things from view or dispense the water they have collected over the hills and dales.
In my recent trip to the Lake District the skies were mostly like lead, small breaks only seemed to occur as the rain came down! The following pictures are a sample of the wonderful colours albeit devoid of great light.
While it would have been great to come back with a clutch of great images, you just can’t beat being out in God’s creation! There’s nothing quite like experiencing the sights and sounds of the rushing rivers, roaring falls, vibrant leaf colours, strange shapes created by the branches of the trees, the magnificence, strength of the older trees. The rocks and mountains shaped by wind, ice and water, and the grandeur of the mountain ranges!
I hope you enjoy this snapshot of some of the locations I visited! I have used the ones from my mobile phone as the format required the least amount of editing.

Hello Frank,
I am enjoying reading your write up almost as much as admiring the lovely images you captured.
You were brave to take a chance on making the trip.
It's paid off handsomely.

Hi Frank

Your recent trip to Wordsworth country seems to have made you into a poet. :)

I have been seeing some wonderful autumnal colours in this part of the world, yet the weather in general has been uncooperative in allowing us to make the best of them. There can be no argument, though, that being out and about in all that nature has to offer is refreshing for the soul, whatever the conditions. Thanks for sharing your work.
Regards

Hi Mike,

thank you!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, these pictures can not do justice to the actual vistas that were in front of the lens, I felt they therefore needed a few more words to help the story :D

I was hoping to get out into the woodland this week, (as the autumn colours tend to start in the north of the country and flow down south.) I have been observing the colour changes on Shirley Hills from our back door . Unfortunately with Lockdown 2.0 underway it's too far for me to claim as part of my daily exercise. The foggy conditions this week have looked great but I will have to find a composition closer to home!

According to the government's regulations, it is permissible to travel to access a local space for exercise. Locally, for preference. If you are going to Shirley Hills, take care as that is where Graham was attacked in Oaks Road. From what he has said, I think that he might have been very unlucky to be spotted by some young thugs as they drove by. Nevertheless, it might be best to get into the woods before opening your camera bag.

There was some fabulous mist yesterday and the lack of wind meant that it did not finally disperse until around 11:30. With my local woods being just around the corner, I was able to have a leisurely start and still return with a good selection of shots. There was more mist this morning, but here it lifted as the sun rose. More is predicted for tomorrow morning, but I am not sre how long it is likely to last.
