If anyone is using a WD My Book Live for external backup or other purposes, the data it holds can be deleted if it is connected to the Internet. The strongly recommended advice is to disconnect it from the web until a solution is found.

There is an update on DPReview. The vulnerability extends beyond the My Book drives and other WD NAS devices running on older firmware are affected as well. WD has updated the firmware but some functionality from the previous version is omitted and older hardware is not supported.
