PAD 236 - Serpent

Postby Mike Farley » Sat 24 Aug 2013, 23:32

Day 236 and on a dull day when it hardly stopped raining, I started playing with the cutlery. The only real surprise is that it took this long into the project. ;)

Canon EOS 7D
EF 100 f/2.8 macro

f/7.1
ISO 100
Yongnuo YN560-II, 1/4 power

Impressive shadow work there, I can imagine it took lots of experimentation to get there :)

Definitely a lot of trial and error, and I did not even start with a fork! I was trying out the flash equipment which I got earlier this and was shooting various household objects using a single flash and umbrella. The umbrella can work either as a reflector or diffuser, both of which evened out the light, but the effect was not particularly exciting. Once I hit on the idea of a fork and a low angle for the flash, it then took a few goes to find a suitable surface for the fork. Eventually I used mountboard and reduced the Clarity in Lightroom ACR to remove the texture. The final image was based on the Overexposed preset in SEP2 to increase the contrast.

All of which took 69 images in total, but I learnt a lot in the process.
