Photography Books on Amazon

Postby Mike Farley » Mon 25 Nov 2013, 12:54

Yesterday I went to a presentation by Tony Worobiec and one of the things he had to say concerned a practice by Amazon about which I had not previously heard. Apparently, Amazon has used its marketing muscle to strong arm publishers into allowing it to print books on demand when they do not have any stocks to fulfil orders. The books are not created from the original printing plates, but from scans of a book and use lower quality paper than the original. If you are disappointed with a book you receive from Amazon and it feels thinner than it should be, this might be the reason.

Since Worobiec is an author of photography books which are available from the online retailer, I have no reason to doubt what he says. Thought you might like to know.
