I was also surprised that my Panasonic G3 did not feature more highly, but it only accounted for around 20% of my total shots during the year. The actual percentage for 365 shots might be a bit higher, though. It depends on what I was doing on any given day and the number of shots taken.

I tend to take the smaller camera when I do not want to carry a large weight of gear, but where possible I still prefer the Canon for its greater flexibility. I am thinking about either replacing the G3 or converting it to infrared during 2014 as sensor technology has moved on a bit in the last couple of years or so. With any luck, the buttons on the rear of the later cameras will be less susceptible to accidental presses. I had a near miss recently when I discovered that I was just one indavertent push away from formatting my memory card.

Unfortunately for Panasonic, they always seem to end up heavily discounting their cameras, so I regard them as a value rather than premium brand. The market agrees, as used examples on eBay do not go for especially high numbers. Indeed, I recently could have had a G5 for £195 from Harrison Cameras at a time when Panasonic had a £50 cashback offer, but declined that as the G6 offers a bit more. But £500 or even £700 for a new Panasonic camera? No way. I'll see what is on offer at the new Photography Live show at Birmingham in March.
