It amazes me that so many months on, the D600 shutter problem is still coming back to bite Nikon on the backside. Some of the reasons are the Japanese culture where an apology is traditionally seen as a weakness and that, historically, Nikon has largely got away with keeping quiet about problems with its products. That strategy will inevitably be less successful in a more connected world where there are many people actively looking for issues, even those which do not exist as real world faults - the Sony A7R "light leak", for example. Quite likely there are also other political considerations in China's decision; could the current territorial dispute between China and Japan about the Senkaku/Diaoyu islands be a factor, for instance?

When I first saw this on DPReview, detailing issues with the new Nikon D4s and certain Lexar compact flash cards, I thought that this was yet another problem with Nikon equipment. It turns out that the fault lies with Lexar. Amazingly, Nikon was able to issue the service advisory within a few days of the camera coming out. Compare that to the tardiness of the advisory for the D600 shutter problems, which took months and a class action legal suit before Nikon acted.
