This is the last of the shots which I intend to publish on the forum from my trip to the Tall Ships Festival. I might return on Monday and possibly the leaving parade on Tuesday if it looks as though the light will be better than dull and gloomy conditions I experienced yesterday.
I nearly did not get this shot. When I got my telephoto zoom out of my bag, I noticed it was a bit dusty and set about cleaning it*. In the few moments that it took to do this, another ship had parked** itself alongside with its masts and sails directly behind those of the original vessel. I hung around and the second ship departedafter a while, shortly followed by the first which left me with a brief period to press the shutter.
* The same lens had been in a similar condition the previous time I had used it and had been cleaned then. When I returned it to my camera bag previously, I am sure there was not as much muck on it as I found. It appears to be The Great Dust Attractor.
** Definitely the correct nautical term for a land lubber.
