An astounding evening with Joe McNally last night. He's a photographer at the top of his game and one of the best in the world in using flash guns for lighting. He's a good speaker too. For three hours he gave a virtuoso performance showing how to get the best out of the unpromising surroundings of the lecture theatre at Amateur Photographer's and What Digital Camera's offices. He more than delivered on that count. Best of all the event was free and, unsurprisingly, the room was full. I am amazed that there was only one other member of the club there despite my early heads up. If you have an interest in using flash in an innovative way and didn't go, you really did miss out. There was even free booze afterwards. :D

One thing which Joe McNally did in his presentation was to use members of the audience as models for his demonstrations. Here he is in action.

AP has posted a video of the event if anyone wants to see what they missed or wants a refresh of the techniques demonstrated on the evening.
