Recordings of Ansel Adams are few and far between, so just to hear him speak in this short film is something of a novelty. He was also a very accomplished pianist and could have ended up with a career in the concert hall if photography had not been an even greater passion. We also get to hear his playing, which is even more unusual. We even get to see him shooting from the specially designed platform he had on the top of his car for the purpose. As for the film itself, it is of its time but it gives an interesting insight into how Adams went about his work, including the equipment he used. It was not just landscapes which he produced, either, even though his other output is less well known. This, children, is the quaint way photography used to be done.
