It is nearly two years since Lightroom 5 was launched and in a blog post Adobe has just announced details of OS requirements for the next version, which for the first time will only be compatible with 64 bit operating systems. You will need Windows 7 or 8/8.1, or OS X 10.7 or later if you have a Mac. In response to a question in the comments, Adobe has also confirmed that it is working with Microsoft to ensure compatibility with Windows 10 when that is released, which presumably will be later this year. There are no details yet of what new features we can expect in Lightroom 6, nor when it will be available.

Re: OS Support for the Next Version of Lightroom
According to Canon Rumours, Lightroom 6 will be released in March. So far as I am aware, there is currently no indication of what new features will be added.

Re: OS Support for the Next Version of Lightroom
Photo Rumours is claiming that LR6 will be announced on 9 March and also provides a list of new features. If the latter is correct, it represents a approach similar to what we saw with LR5, i.e. further tweaking rather than a significant update. Not that functions such as improved performance, a better healing brush and ability to create panoramas are not desirable, but it would confirm that LR is now a mature product.
