This is a photograph of the Orion nebula. Canon 100D (with the internal IR filter removed) through a Celestron 6SE telescope. I was made by stacking about 7 different photos.

Awesome! I was looking at that telescope (among others) but decided not to get one in the end, light pollution here is awful!

An impressive shot, although I have to inform you on behalf of Brooks Jensen is that this image has nothing to do with you and is solely down to the camera. Oh, and nature played a part as well. I jest, of course.

You say that the IR block filter has been removed from your camera, but was any filtration applied?

I will try to make your talk in a few weeks Graham as this a very interesting aspect of photography for me. You mention stacking 7 images, do you mean focus-stacking or some other process? Only because I thought (naively??) that you set your camera to infinity and all the stars are in focus.

The BBC did something like this earlier this year but it wasn't with just seven images. They asked all viewers to take photographs of a certain region in the sky and send in the results. The BBC then used some software to extract the area they were interested in and stacked them to improve the quality of the image. The more they added the more the detail was enhanced. I didn't see the final result but I should imagine it was breathtaking.
