I found this overview on Imaging Resource which includes an embedded video from Adobe which goes through some of the new features. Whilst I do not anticipate having much use for some of the added functions, the usability tweaks appear genuinely worthwhile. I also agree that the brush and gradient tools have some value as well, which I should have mentioned.* That said, I still think that Adobe has been parsimonious with the additions, especially compared to the advances made in the earlier releases up to LR4. I suppose that goes with a mature product which has a significant market share; Adobe has most of us sold and no longer needs to pull out all the stops.

* In my defence, I took the list of features from Adobe's press release and the tools were not mentioned there either.

Which begs the question... What would you like to see Adobe add to LR ??

These were my views ahead of the announcement, not that the new additions are unwelcome.

According to Thom Hogan, a number of people are experiencing issues when updating to the new version of Lightroom. Adobe consistently seems to be one of those companies where it is best to wait a while to allow things settle down and let others find the bugs. Interesting comment at the end of the article that the new features mean there is now even less need for images to make the trip into Photoshop. I guess that means we are unlikely to see full support for Layers in LR any time soon. ;)

Has anybody tried LR6 yet?
