Ive been subscribing to this mag for a while now (I think David Candlish pointed me to it) and have been fairly happy with it*. I received a letter last month to say my subscription is being cancelled as the magazine is going online. I had thought you would still have to to pay for it but apparently not. They use the Issuu website which I know Photography News also use (both are from same publishers).

* They seem to have a very cosy relationship with Samsung, it sometimes feel they are sponsoring them...

Re: Advanced Photographer magazine now free
Thanks, Paul. I know that quite a few prople like this magazine, but it has never had much appeal for me and I have rarely bought it. That was not helped in the early days by what was probably a small print run, which meant that it sold out well before the end of the month. I recall giving away a copy to a friend in the mistaken belief I could acquire another.
I had a quick look at the latest issue, which was not only free to view but required no registration either. It is almost devoid of adverts, the sole exception being one from Nikon at the end, a situation which if it continues must raise doubts about the magazine's prospects in the longer term.

Thanks Paul for the interesting Advanced Photographer magazine.
Really enjoyed Vincent Laforet's Upfront of cities from above.
I wonder how the winning Tetenal Classic Black & White winner (pg 13 - 14) would have fared in our Monochrome Competition.

Re: Advanced Photographer magazine now free
If Advanced Photographer really is going away that will be quite a sad day. For me, it stood out in a crowd of mediocrity as a magazine targeted at the photographer still wanting to learn & develop their skills. The alternatives were either the expensive, patronising list of adverts known as Amatuer Photographer or one of the "clones", worthless rags like Digital SLR User/Digital Photographer/Digital Photo Magazine/Practical Photography/Photography Monthly which endlessly regurgitate the same tired "BECOME A BETTER PHOTOGRAPHER NOW!!!" articles. We don't get many foreign magazines - or many at all, come to think of it - here in SG but I flicked through a copy of Practical Photography and nothing has changed.
Advanced Photographer didn't give anything you couldn't already get from youtube or elsewhere on the internet but the way it presented it was non-patronising & genuinely useful. Their lighting academy series stood out for me and I still have many pages in a folder to refer back to. Having a suite of techniques in printed form to refer back to has been handy on more than one occasion. It was refreshing for me to find a magazine that assumed a general level of understanding and sought to build on it.

A further browse of the http://issuu.com/ website reveals numerous other free photo mags, some from around the world (as well as many other genres). Some are older issues but would still have interesting articles.

Thanks for the links, Paul. Maybe davidc can find some magazines which take his fancy.
Re: Advanced Photographer magazine now free
I only wanted advanced photographer
Though in all seriousness, I'd even been buying that less frequently and only when there were new articles and guides that caught my eye. Or when I was featured in it
I do think magazines have had their day sadly.
