Hi All,

Just to update you. The studio is a fully functional photographic studio with a range of lighting. In theory (unless you want to experiment) there should be little need for an on-camera flash.

Regarding triggers, I will bring my triggers and I'm sure that Paul will be bringing his, so that will be 4 compatible triggers. In addition, Andrew (the photographer) is a Canon person himself and will have a range of lenses and/or components available should we need them.

For those concerned about the subjects there will be: Twin girls about 18 months old, two girls about 9 years old and at least on female prepared to model. So you will have plenty of choice. The models will be spread (time wise) throughout the morning.

I am informed that from 10am to about 10.30 Andrew will give some training regarding using both the studio and the lighting which should be of essential interest.

For those bringing in Canon or Nikon cameras who would like to try out particular lenses, just post a reply on this thread and I'll try to ensure that those lenses will be available on the day.

Regards,

Tom

Hi
There seems to be a contradiction here, Ron is saying we need a flashgun and Tom is saying it's a fully equipped studio, what is it?

Hi All

When I arranged this Andrew he said you will need flashguns.

Having used Andrew personally, he uses flashguns and not triggers.

As I have said if you do not have a flashgun do not worry we will overcome.

Hi,

Sorry if I've caused confusion here but I wasn't fully aware of Ron's previous information.

I will take both triggers (for off-camera flash) should they be needed and a dedicated Canon flash.

In answer to Paul's post, it is a fully functional studio and I can only suggest that Andrew is going to demonstrate a range of techniques.

I will speak to Ron and Andrew and update this information accordingly.

Hi

Just to finally clarify the situation.

Yes Andrew will demonstrate a range of techniques which just leaves the issue of flash guns.

The studio is fully equipped as previously stated but the lighting is not tripod mounted, they are ceiling and wall mounted lights. Because of that there it is impractical to use conventional triggers (cables) so Andrew uses on camera flash to trigger the studio lights.

Pop-up flashes are no good as they will fire directly at the subject, however a separate flash can be directed anywhere to create light for the flash head sensors to activate the studio flashes.

All that said, I'll bring along a dedicated Canon flash (430EX) if anyone wants to borrow one and a transmitter and slave in case anyone wants to play with off-camera flash.

I hope this clarifies everything.

Regards,

Tom

Hi
So this is for Canon users only. I don't have a camera flash & use a Nikon.

Hi Paul,

Nikons or any other make are always very welcome. To put your mind at ease I'm also taking along a generic flash which you're very welcome to use. Based on my post above any flash will do to trigger studio lights.

I will be taking my own generic flash triggers and a Yongnuo YN 560 II, I believe this combination will work on Nikons as well as Canon. If your Nikon has a built-in flash it may even work on that.
