I have 20" x 30" print I need to mount. I have mountboard and tape, but no backing board (unless I use some more of the mountboard ?) I'd really welcome some help to mount it at next week's members' evening please if someone is willing to give me a hand ? It's on quite heavy paper and rolled up at the moment so an extra pair of hands would make it a lot easier !
Thanks

Re: Help needed with mounting please...
Hi Rose,
Happy to help on Wednesday if I can, but I'm no expert.
The largest piece of nuboard backing I've got is about 24" x 22", which would be too small length-wise I guess. You might be able to get a single A1 sized piece of rigid foamboard or polyboard from the upstairs section of the London Graphic Centre (corner of Shelton Street near Covent Garden station http://www.londongraphics.co.uk/showfile.aspx?id=Covent%20Garden%20Store).
But then there's the issue of carrying an A1 sized item home in the rush-hour....
Cheers,
Graham

There's no reason why you cannot use mountboard as you are only want to have something which will stiffen the mount. Occasionally I use offcuts taped together to make a backing.
Re: Help needed with mounting please...
Hi Rose,
All my mountboard and backing nubord have already been cut down to near the standard 40 x 50 cm (A2 ?) regulation size and so can't help you there.
I guess you are primarily asking for help in cutting a window in A1 mount board to mount your 20 x 30 inch image giving you a 3 inch margin around.
I could bring my Logan 350 cutter to cut the mount board precisely, with the help of Graham L who has much more experience then me with the Logan.
Just checked on the net - The 350-1 has a downsize capacity of 32 in (81cm), so cannot handle A1 card? Graham L, what does your experience say?
You might need an expert cutter with a Steel Rule and Blade - Tom?

Hi Iggy, sorry I've been preoccupied since the weekend and only just seen your message... I am primarily looking for help in cutting a mount of the right size so if your cutter will do the trick I would welcome the assistance, thanks
And Wally - your expertise would be a bonus !
Thanks guys
Rose
Re: Help needed with mounting please...
Hi Graham,
Do you think that the Logan 350 can cope with cutting a window in a A1 board?
Or might this best be done with a steel rule and blade?
I don't have a Jakar Steel rule with the sliding cutter for free hand cutting.
I will chuck my equipment into the car boot and bring it along.
Rose, might be best to bring in 2 mount boards, in case the first try does not work well!

Re: Help needed with mounting please...
Yes, with qualification.
The specifications by Logan state that the maximum size is 40“/101cm and the maximum border using the guide is 5.5”/14cm (minimum is 0.75”/1.9cm. As the A1 dimensions are 23.4” x 33.1”/59.4 x 84.1 cm it should fit, as long as the border is within 2-14cm from the edge. Otherwise it would have to be a manual cut. The 350-1 can also be used for cutting up to 5mm foamboard (but not the thicker 8 ply mountboard).
For where I got this from see http://www.logangraphic.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/cc.jpg I couldn’t find this information in the Logan manual when I looked.
Cheers,
Graham
