Sony has completed the deal to acquire Toshiba's sensor business. One effect this has is to remove a competitor, so most camera companies will be forced to have a greater reliance on Sony. As DPReview notes, that does not take into account any plans Samsung might have in respect of its photography business and sensor production. Whether or not Samsung will continue to manufacture cameras in the longer term, it will want to leverage what it can from its investment. The NX1 amply demonstrates Samsung's capabilities when it comes to sensors and becoming a supplier is one option for them.

Re: Sony Acquires Toshiba's Sensor Business
