He does refer to that perpetual conundrum about whether to submit shots into a competition which you like or those you think will appeal to the judge. I have lost count of those which I enjoy, but where somehow or other the judge manages to find some excuse to dismiss them. As some will have noted, it has coloured my opinion of judges recently.
