Nikon's (Almost) Catch 22

An issue with Nikon's WR-10 remote controller has become apparent when used with the new D5. They are incompatible and the WR10 requires a firmware upgrade. Which can only be done by Nikon and the controller has to go back to a service centre. After which using it with a D810 or D810A might cause the camera to freeze. So those models require a firmware upgrade as well, although it will not be available until next month. Not quite a Catch 22 then, as everything will work together, eventually, but what was Nikon thinking?

Heh. Bet you can get a cheap clone from China for the same price or less as it costs to send back to Nikon.

There are no 3rd party peripherals I've used for any brand that don't do at least as good a job as on-brand ones and they are always a fraction of the price!

Thom Hogan has been complaining about Nikon's various inconsistencies for years. According to him, the problems lie not just with the cameras but manifest themselves in other aspects such as marketing.
