Move over Andreas Gursky, your Rhine II image is just so cheap at a measly $4.3m. The new most expensive photo on the block has just sold for $6.5m and unlike Gursky's shot, which was resold by a collector, all the money appears to have gone straight to the photographer, Peter Lik. What is more, the same person bought two other photos at the same time for $2.4m and $1.1m, making their total outlay an amazing $10m. For that kind of cash, I'd have chucked in a free print. Maybe even two.*

What is surprising is that the top priced picture is of Antelope Canyon, which is one of the well known slot canyon's in Arizona and a favourite in camera club competitions. Admittedly it is in monochrome, but that is hardly original, either.
* Such generosity is probably why I will never be exceedingly wealthy.
