This article by Mike Johnston at The Online Photographer reminds me of when I did my photo-a-day project a while back. When I went out with my camera with the imperative to produce a picture for that day, guess what? I got a picture. Maybe on occasion the image was not that special, but frequently they more than passed muster. There were quite a few really good ones in there too, which I only obtained because I had an incentive. If you had asked me at the start of day what my eventual image would be, I could not have told you. Somehow they just happened, but I had to be there with my camera, looking. It was one of the surprises, as well as one of the many benefits, of the exercise.

I cannot express the phenomenon any more succintly than this quote from the article:
"get out there, and good things will happen"

Hi Mike,
Nice quotation. Such a lovely day today. I guess light is just perfect.
You have inspired me to go our to the squirrel park for just half an hour and see what images I can come back with.
Had a great day at the Canon Shoot yesterday. Some images in Outings
I guess you enjoyed Margate. See you tonight.

Went out for just over an hour that included walking there & back.
Lots of squirrels and set one to feed on a fallen tree.
Then met a man that I knew with his dog and eventually got an image.
Started talking to a woman with her dog and got their image. Her daughter is interested in photography and told her about the CCC.
Any way here are the dog images!

Hi Iggy
I have just seen your shots. Things do seem to happen when venturing out with a camera. In this instance, you might even have the start of a photographic project - people and their dogs.

I was in Margate to give my "Lightroom Overview" lecture (http://www.mikefarley.net/lightroom_overview.html) to the Isle of Thanet Photographic Society.
They are a friendly club which can trace its origins back to 1888, the year before our own club was founded. It was a long way to come home at the end of the evening, so one of their members put me up overnight. I took the opportunity go down early to look around Margate and the following day I returned via Broadstairs and Ramsgate. I got some shots which I will publish in due course as I catch up with the backlog on my "Photo of the Day" series.
The light was challenging for much of the time, but it brightened up while I was at Broadstairs. It is a quaint place, which does not seem to have changed much over the years since I first visited it as a boy. It could be worth a visit next summer for the annual Dickens Festival - http://www.broadstairsdickensfestival.co.uk/.

Hi Mike,
I do seem to take a lot of images of dogs, sometimes with their owners.
Got quite a few of dogs in Goa on the beach!
The Dickens Festival should be a good photo opportunity.

Rochester has an annual Dickens Festival as well - http://www.visitkent.co.uk/events/9576/.
If you cannot wait that long, there is a Dickens themed Christmas Festival in a couple of weeks - http://www.visitkent.co.uk/products/roc ... as2016.pdf.
