Dorset Photography Locations

Postby Mike Farley » Sat 31 Dec 2016, 09:35

Even though the weather did not cooperate when the club visited Dorset on our recent trip, the county offers a lot of potential within a relatively small area and is reasonably easy to reach from South London. Mark Bauer has just published a book which covers the best known photographic locations, including information such as best time of day/year to visit. It is comprehensive and besides location details has sections on the weather, as well as some appiicable techniques and a composition guide for landscape photography.

Mark lives in the county and knows the area well. The book is amply illustrated with many of the photographs he has taken over the years, including some from his film days when he used a Pentax 67II. He once had a shot of Swanage Pier featured in DSLR User magazine which was taken with that camera!

He is someone for whom satnavs were invented, having the worst sense of direction of anyone I have met. I once even witnessed Mark getting lost in a hotel car park, when he headed in the opposite direction to the exit. Each location includes latitude/longtitude, OS map references and parking post codes, which are very useful. I just hope that the book's editors have checked them prior to publication!
