Fast Lenses

Postby Mike Farley » Mon 16 Dec 2013, 09:26

This might not be the fastest lens ever made, but it will probably be the most affordable.

For those willing to surrender a little bit of speed in return for a lower price, Voigtländer has three lenses in its f/0.95 Nokton range of which this 25 mm is one.

If you want to splash out in pursuit of a fast lens, there is always this. I am not sure if it is the case now, but at one stage Leica could not make enough to meet demand and there was a waiting list of at least 12 months.

The title of fastest lens goes to this bit of nonsense, dating from the 1960s, when Zeiss was making a point. I doubt if you will ever see any images made with it as the "design" was optimised for the transmission of light and there was no consideration of optical correction.

The fastest lenses which are actually usable that I know of are these f/0.7 jobbies, again from Zeiss. Only those with deep pockets need apply.
